The following text is taken from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altmetric.com\/blog\/scholarly-communications\/#.VccrpK2plKx.twitter\" target=\"_blank\">blog<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Better understanding: <\/b>We\u2019ll start to see more nuanced conversations about what \u201cimpact\u201d really means, as well as an increased acceptance of more varied flavors of impact. As part of this, universities and funders will increasingly recognize metrics beyond citations, including altmetrics, some of which can showcase the \u201cbroader impacts\u201d of research;<\/li>\n<li><b>Better dissemination: <\/b>Publishers will continue to experiment with new ways to make research consumable online, building on important work like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/volokh-conspiracy\/wp\/2015\/05\/10\/new-criticism-of-regnerus-study-on-parenting-study\/\"><u><span style=\"color:#0066cc;\"><i>eLife<\/i>\u2019s Lens<\/span><\/u><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/PeerJ\/paper-now\"><u><span style=\"color:#0066cc;\"><i>PeerJ<\/i>\u2019s PaperNow<\/span><\/u><\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><b>Better bottom lines for OA publications: <\/b>Publishers, societies, and libraries will also invent and test new Open Access financial models like <i>F1000 Research<\/i>\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/f1000research.com\/for-authors\/article-processing-charges\"><u><span style=\"color:#0066cc;\">length-based article processing charge fees<\/span><\/u><\/a> and Open Library of the Humanities\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openlibhums.org\/2014\/04\/07\/library-partnership-subsidies-lps\/\"><u><span style=\"color:#0066cc;\">\u201ccollaboration, not competition\u201d funding model<\/span><\/u><\/a>, moving academia away from the idea of \u201cone size fits all\u201d OA publishing; and<\/li>\n<li><b>Better recognition: <\/b>The <a href=\"http:\/\/projectcredit.net\/\"><u><span style=\"color:#0066cc;\">many varied scholarly contributions of individuals<\/span><\/u><\/a> will finally be recognized by the powers that be, whether it\u2019s related to data curation, designing protocols, or scholarly service activities (which creates discrete important but currently undervalued outputs like peer reviews, blog posts, and so on).
