Now, the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ismpp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ISMPP<\/a>) has\u00a0 issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/03007995.2023.2273139\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">position statement<\/a>, published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/journals\/icmo20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Current Medical Research and Opinion<\/em><\/a>, that aims to \u201cilluminate the inherent value of AI and to establish best practices\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The statement, developed by the ISMPP AI Task Force, provides medical publication and communication professionals with 11 key recommendations for the appropriate use of AI. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>appropriate disclosure<\/li>\n<li>maintaining confidentiality<\/li>\n<li>data transparency<\/li>\n<li>eliminating <a href=\"https:\/\/thepublicationplan.com\/2023\/11\/14\/recommendations-for-ethical-use-of-ai-chatbots-in-publications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bias<\/a><\/li>\n<li>and educating and addressing misconceptions around AI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Chief among the recommendations is the continued responsibility and accountability of medical publishing professionals, even when AI is used: \u201cAll AI outputs must be subjected to human oversight and verification to ensure accuracy and prevent the dissemination of misinformation or disinformation\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cAll AI outputs must be subjected to human oversight and verification to ensure accuracy and prevent the dissemination of misinformation or disinformation\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>ISMPP also issued a direct call to action to its members, emphasising their role in ensuring the effective and safe use of AI.
