However, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-022-01692-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nature News article<\/a> summarising the results of a <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/35654271\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent study<\/a> published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jclinepi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Journal of Clinical Epidemiology<\/em><\/a> highlights discrepancies between such statements and actual data sharing behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Mirko Gabelica et al analysed over 3,500 manuscripts published by 333 open access journals in January 2019. Among the articles indicating that data would be available on request, over 90% of authors did not share their data when contacted. Only 14% of authors responded to data sharing requests and only around 7% provided usable data.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Only 14% of authors responded to data sharing requests and only around 7% provided usable data.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In many cases, no specific barriers to data sharing were cited, and authors were either unresponsive or unwilling to share data with the researchers.
